MFL (Modern Foreign Languages)
Our Vision
Languages are part of the cultural richness of our society and the world in which we live. We would like our pupils to become global citizens and develop their understanding of different countries and cultures through their study of languages. We aim to engage and motivate pupils to succeed in their studies, to build confidence in their ability to communicate, to foster independence as well as increase their employment prospects.

Key Stage 3
n Key Stage 3, pupils will learn either French, German or Spanish. Throughout Key Stage 3 we aim to build a solid grammatical foundation so that pupils can express themselves and create their own language. In all three subjects, we aim to increase confidence in speaking and writing skills and create resilient learners who enjoy their lessons. Topics covered include school, hobbies and interest, holidays and tourism, self and family, hometown and local area.
Pupils specialise in one language in order to prepare them effectively for the new style GCSEs. Pupils will improve their skills in the fours areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing: we focus on improving tenses and on introducing more complex language. Assessment tasks throughout Key Stage 3 will mirror the types of tasks expected at GCSE level.
